10:39 pm - Kemetic Recon

starryeyedlion

How do we reconstruct the religion of Egypt? Unlike other Recon paths their isn’t a lot of information other than for temples, funerary functions, and the pharaoh.  Unfortunately in this day and age, a true Egyptian temples would be impossible to support and while some groups do have a Pharaoh they function more as high priests and not mighty lords.

So what things do we reconstruct. While there are plenty of calendars out there, I can’t find a single source detailing how the celebrations were done, not to mention how to recalibrate it based on the stars.  So holy days are out for the most part. Additionally hardly anything is known about how your average Egyptian worshiped. We know they probably had an shrine at home, open public shrines, and ear stellas at the temple walls but not what they actually did with them. Also what about the average or poor persons afterlife, quite a few of them weren’t mummified.

All we know is that most Egyptians were pious and we can get a rough idea of their ethics from the wisdom texts.

So for all you Kemetic Recons, what has been reconstructed because I would greatly like to know.

(note I, and it seems most of the members of the kemetic orthodoxy are not Recons but revivalists which seem to be a different animal.)

6:47 pm - A few questions (cross posted)

jayed
Evening all!!

I have a few questions and I am hoping that someone will be able to help.

I am currently in my 4th year of my Egyptology Diploma, and I am writing my dissertation..:) The title of which is provisionally Changing aspects of Jackal Gods, from pre-dynastic period to Greaco-Roman Egypt. This dissertation will concentrate on Anubis and His role in Egypt, which is not only interesting from a religious point of view, but also an academic point of view.

What I am looking for is academic evidence of the melding of Wepwawet and Anubis (as is traditional in HoN). I've not found any relgious text, nor historical evidence to back this up.. I have found a relationship between Wep and Khenti-Amentiu though.

What Jackal Gods are there? I have found the following:-
Wepwawet
Khenti-Amentiu
Duamutef
Input (female form of Anubis)
Anubis

I am 100% sure that there is another form of Wep called Seb? Seq? Sed?

Thanks guys..:)

8:20 pm - Musings on ma'at...

There is something that has been niggling in the back of my mind for a long time now, and it is becoming increasingly likely that it is going to develop into a very important theory in my spiritual path, and I need to put it down in a written format so I can really start to play with the concepts entailed therein. I must hasten to assure everyone that this isn't a finished theory, merely something I am playing with and it will likely be greatly changed by the time I come to consider it ready to be used in any real way.

7:02 pm - London Kemetics?

hemooset
Hi all,

I am looking to contact any other kemetics in the London/Surrey area of the UK. I am reasonably sure there may be a temple running in London. I am not sure I want to actually join another temple, as I am happy with finding my own path worshipping solo for now, but it'd be great to be linked with others of the same beliefs.

Does anyone know of any Kemetics in London?

Well here is the next posts in my quest:

January 3rd/ Rekh Ur 19th

"The day of the mourning of the God. Do not go out alone in the daytime. Adverse."

Well if I had to guess the God they are speaking of is Ra. But with such and opened statement like that is there anyway to know for sure?

Well this is the next post in my day in the life calendar view of how the Ancient Eypts lived!  Now there are a few spots that I won't post it in but I have found a few more to post to so it's all good.

January 2nd/ Rekh Ur 18th

"The seven executioners go forth. Bad"

Seems to not be a good day.  So can anyone tell me who the seven executioners were?  I have yet to run across them in any of my readings but have some ideas.

11:29 pm - Time for sharing and learning!

gift_of_isis

Well as part of my studies about Egypt, I will be posting everyday.  I have found a very good copy of "the Cairo calendar".  It is very good and I also write each day in to my day planner.  It is my hope that I will be able to know the calendar by heart.  I think it will take me about two years to get this under my belt!  Here is the first entry.  Then what will follow is an except from the book I found it in.  I am also posting it in the Egypt communities I belong to.  I wish to share with other's what I learn!  Here we go!!</font>

Julian Date:  January 1st,   Tameran Date:  Rekh Ur 17th        </font>

Day of keeping things of the wabet of Asar, which have been placed in the hands of Aupu.  Very favorable.</font>

Now on to the details.  Read more...Collapse )

May anyone recommend a few sufficient introductory texts to the Khemetic traditions, if such exist? I know very little, and I am certainly curious as to its schema as a whole.

Any response will be appreciated.

5:28 am - Grateful !!!!

gift_of_isis
Things I am grateful for today:

1. My Kat Mystic, how always keeps my company even when I am reading.
2. The moon and all it's glowing glory.
3. Isis for holding my hand and helping me along my way.
4. My friends for helping me calm down when I over react and jump the gun.
5. My sister, for helping me get my life back in order and not straying down that destructive path again.

Hmm... did not think I would be able to do all 5. Then as I am sitting here typing I have ever more. This makes me smile.

Oh, by the way hello all! I am so happy to have found this community. It will be nice to share ideas with those of like mind.

Bright Blessings!

6:00 am - dilema

amenhotepiii
Hi, I'm new here.
I am not however new to Khemeticism.

I have something of a problem, and would like some suggestions//advice//help etc.

A few days ago was the anniversary of one of my friends' suicide. I could not get to Baton Rouge to visit his grave, and thus, was quite distraught. Later that night, I did something a bit foolish -- more than a bit foolish, really. I decided that since I could not go to him to speak with him, I'd bring him to me.
And so I meditated for a long time, a very long time, concentrating on him, and my memories of him, hoping I could sort of "will" him to me.
I knew better than to do such things, but as I said, I was really really depressed.
Finally I felt him. He felt warm, familiar, and good. The feeling was so intense, it made me cry.
After a while, I released him and he was gone.
When I had recovered from the experience, I felt that my room was not quite the same. Something felt amiss.
It was later that I realised I was sensing something else with me. Something foreign.
I decided to leave it alone. I was hoping maybe I was just imagining things, but I knew that this was the reason why I should never have tried calling to my dead friend.
It didn't leave. I decided to investigate a little and meditated some more. I "came to" hours later quite sore and drained.
Since, I have noted deep shadows moving about the room that I never noticed before. Granted, that could simply be the effects of an overactive imagination, but I don't think so.
I have not slept peacefully in a week -- plagued by horrid dreams, and waking usually within an hour or so feeling as though I had done some intense physical exertion. I am exhausted, and woke up this morning after an hour of the same restless sleep to find that I now have pink eye in both eyes.
I've not been near anyone with conjunctivitis; I don't wear contacts; and although I do suffer from seasonal allergies, the pollen count here is not terribly high, nor have I ever suffered pink eye due to allergies.
Which led me to only one conclusion. The unfriendly presence that I've been feeling must be the cause.
Now, I am familiar with wards, but never have I preformed a banishment or seen one be preformed. Furthermore, all of my friends with knowledge of this sort are currently in Baton Rouge whilst I am located in New Orleans for a few more weeks.
I figure that if I had enough "power" to will it here, then I should have enough to send it away, but I am, now, quite, exhausted and lethargic. The only conclusion I can draw is that it is doing this to me. For what, I don't know. But I don't think I can pull of a banishment in my current state, and would probably only succeed in provoking it.
Does anyone have any suggestions or advice? It would be much appreciated.
